blink
i was co-founder, creative director and artist at blink, a social enterprise run with friends and colleagues Bobbi Meddings and nicky connor. blink was housed in a 2-story shop in Coventry city centre and conceived a programme of cross-disciplinary art events, including: exhibitions; art residencies; as a testing space for art projects. Our shopping arcade location aimed to attract new art audiences to a variety of artistic contexts by facilitating engagement with the passing public.
blink worked with established and emerging artists, and postgraduates from Coventry University. blink also collaborated with Education for Conservation, an organization ‘connecting people and nature through art and technology’ [view education for conservation here]. Together we designed and delivered an intergenerational picnic arts event that addressed issues of social isolation and promotion of community interaction.
our audience joined the event as part of a story that created the day's framework. The story was a re-working of Alice in wonderland, performed by actors from Heartbreak Productions who interpreted our scripts with magical performances [view heartbreak productions here].
300 people attended the event at Ryton Organic Gardens over 3 days. The project was awarded funding of £10,000 from UK Big Lottery and selected by them as case study for community art events. An archive and inside look at blink can be found by viewing this video and on this blink blog
